National Human Rights commission

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is an independent institution established under the Protection of Human Rights Act 1998. Its primary objectives are to promote and protect human rights.

A free inclusive Mauritian society where all citizens respect each other’s rights and dignity and live together in harmony.

About Us

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) adheres to the Paris Principles and enjoys ‘A’ status accreditation from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).

The NHRC is a member of the following organisations :

  • The Global Alliance of  National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) based in Geneva.
  • The regional Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) based in Nairobi.
  • The Association Francophone des Commissions Nationales des Droits de L’Homme (AFCNDH) based in Paris.
  • The Commonwealth Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (CFNHRI).
